So what's the difference between где and куда, здесь and сюда, там and туда? Let's get this sorted. So здесь means here, no motion, там means there, again, no motion. And they both answer the question, где, where or literally, where at, again, no motion. For example, где джон, where's джон? Он здесь, he's here, or он там, he's there. Now, сюда literally means to here, and then туда means to there. And they both answer the question, куда, to where. And the reason it's confusing to English speakers is because in English, you don't literally say to here, to there, or to where. So you don't say to where are you going, right? You just say where are you going? And then I am going there, you wouldn't say I'm going to there. But in Russian, you would use those different words to express that directionality. So if you want to ask someone, where are you going, a typical mistake would be to say где ты идешь. But that's incorrect because you're literally asking to where are you going. And for that, you must use the word куда. Because again, где only means where at, not where to. And the same goes for сюда, to here. For example, Джон идёт сюда, Джон is coming to here, or Джон идёт туда, he's going to there, hence the very common expression. Иди сюда, come here, or literally come to here.
