This is Best Viral Formats Episode 3, yapping. Everybody's loving yaps right now because they seem so easy to make. But the irony is all the best yaps that go viral are following a set formula. So if you want your yap videos to actually cut through, these are the three things you have to do. The first one is to make sure you dial in the title text. The dirty little secret about content is that spoken hooks actually matter way less than the title text hook on screen. 99 out of 100 people will read that text and then decide whether they want to keep watching. Now when you're writing your title text, typically you want to either frame a new perspective on a topic or open a curiosity loop based question in the viewer's mind. The easiest way to solve this is to just study what other yap videos have used for their title text and reverse engineer the format. Now the second thing all the best consistent yapers have is intentional motion. There are really two categories of yaps you can make. Static yaps are the fixed ones that people film in like bedrooms or cars. And sometimes these pop but the hit rate is actually really low if you look at the analytics. Premium yaps on the other hand have some kind of motion in them, ideally in the hook and the body. My favorite guy who does these premium yaps is NPC phase on. He kind of just leaves the camera in the same spot but then quick cuts as he sits in different places and it's super engaging to watch visually. The reason why is these cuts reset the visual field and it just holds your attention so much better. Now you could argue these kind of technically aren't a yap but I think this elevated execution with a little bit of different motion is the easiest way to have a premium execution. You could also add motion through walking talks or picking up the camera and putting it down but you gotta have some kind of motion or else it's gonna fall flat. Now the third component to great yaps is actually the most important and this is the structure of your storytelling. All great yapers actually have a plan in their head before they press record. So in your mind you want to have the hook whatever your main contrarian take is and then one to two body points just floating around that you can go to pretty easily. I'm telling you the pros that go viral consistently with these low-fi yaps, they're not just riffing, they're planning out what they're trying to say and using data-driven hooks. Now yapping is just one of the most popular formats working right now. Comment formats and I'll send you my visual database of the top 20 short form formats as well as a bunch of examples for each one.
