What if you had a car in ancient Rome? Day 1, you appear on the Via Appia in a black BMW. Rome has roads. First civilization where you can actually drive. A merchant tries to feed the car, hey, you tell him it's not a horse. He doesn't believe you. He leaves a bucket of water next to it overnight. Day 2, Julia Caesar sees the car and demands a ride. You hit top speed on the Via Appia. He steps out and says he conquered Gaul on horseback. Could have done it in a week with this. Day 3, a chariot racer challenges you at the circus Maximus. 250,000 people watching. He has four horses. You have 300 horse power. You finish before he reaches the first turn. He retires that afternoon. Day 4, you drive into the Colosseum before the fights. 50,000 people. You rev the engine. The crowd thinks a beast is loose. Gladiators refuse to fight after. Nothing they do can top a BMW doing laps. Day 5, Socrates is visiting Rome. Walks around the car. It moves without horses. Without slaves. What moves it? Fuel. What is fuel? You can't explain. So you depend on something you can't make to use something you don't understand. You want to run him over. Day 6, fuel light on. By sunset, priests have built a shrine on the hood. You're watching the most advanced civilization on Earth, worship a BMW.
