something major is happening in the Netherlands right now and hardly anyone even knows about it. One of Europe's most important agricultural regions came to a standstill over the weekend after huge farmer protests broke out. Major freeways and bridges were blocked causing traffic gems for miles and economic disruption and even two people died in accidents related to these protests. The farmers also created this large shield of steel formation as a sign of solidarity against their government. So what the hell is going on? Well, Dutch farmers are being ordered by the government to cut emissions by up to 46 percent before 2035. But to achieve that, that may mean fewer cows allowed on their land, stricter feeding rules and expensive new equipment just to keep their farms running, which the farmers say isn't sustainable and threatens their livelihoods. And without farmers, the country doesn't eat, with their slogan for years being no farmers, no food. Now the country's prime minister is responded by urging them to stop protesting on the highways because they're risking people's lives. But the farmers are refusing until the government scraps or amends these nitrogen plans and starts listening to the people it actually affects.
