- Bro, India's cow gelantes are getting out of hand. Violent attacks are being carried out across the country where groups of men are trying to stop illegal cattle smugglers because in India cows are sacred. But the craziest part, these attacks are actually way more common than you think, and have been happening for years, resulting in hundreds of deaths and injuries. And let me tell you, these vigilante groups will go to any extreme necessary for their cause, including high-speed chases, scaling the sides of livestock trucks like frickin' mission impossible, as well as vandalizing vehicles and beating up or humiliating drivers. And in some cases, it can get really dark. Just a couple of months ago, in June, seven men were sentenced to life in prison for lynching a suspected cow smuggler. Now, here's the thing, many Hindus say that violent vigilantes do not represent genuine cow protection, which is seen as a religious and cultural duty, and these cow mafias are giving the cause a bad reputation. But the cow Gelantes argue that they have to do this because the government is failing to enforce slaughter bans, which are illegal or heavily restricted in most states of India. So yeah, turns out if you didn't know, transporting beef in India might be one of the most dangerous jobs in the world.
