The person closest to the problem usually has the better answer. Most owners overrule them anyway. Holding every decision doesn’t protect the company, it stunts it. Your people have a perspective you’ve lost from the owner’s chair. Set the guardrails, hand them the KPIs, define the win, and let them get creative. That’s how the company grows past you.

Often times owners want to stick their hands in every single decision. Well, if it's not my decision, it's not the right one. And we don't allow people to be creative to come up with new solutions. Think about it. They have a perspective that is wholly different than yours. They're seeing exactly what is happening on the day to day. So wouldn't they be the better person to make that decision? As owners, we need to set guardrails. We need to give our people KPIs and what it looks like to win. And then let them go because if we don't, if we hold on to every single decision, we will stunt the growth of our companies. So what I want you to do is ask your people what's one decision that they feel like they should be able to make and currently can't make without your approval. Find out what those are, get clear on what the end goal is. And at that point in time, they can become creative and figure out solutions on their own.
