The most important thing you’ll ever do in business isn’t strategy. It’s getting the right people and actually empowering them. But empowerment has a second half nobody talks about: accountability. You check in. You build the dashboards. You give people the KPIs before you hold them to the KPIs. Freedom without a measuring stick isn’t empowerment, it’s abandoning the wheel.

Earing the right people, getting the right people on your team, and then empowering them to grow and develop and drive the company forward is the most important thing you are going to do in business. A lot of people overlook this. They'll not pay attention to what their turnover is in the business. They'll not pay attention to people not hitting KPIs that, in most instances, they were never given. How are you empowering your people? How are you holding them accountable? Education is one thing, but accountability has to be there after you empower them. We've got to be checking in, we've got to have dashboards, we've got to have all of these measuring devices to make sure that we are all growing in the same direction.

If I could only track five numbers in my HVAC sales department, it would be: revenue per lead, close rate, average install revenue, discount rate, and revenue to budget.
