Once you hire the right people and get out of their way, you literally can't stop the growth. I've seen it firsthand here at Peterman Brothers. We find the right people, we empower them, we give them goals, we give them KPIs, and then we get out of their way. If you're the owner of a business and you're the one coming up with every idea that ever relates to anything that helps your business grow, then there's a problem. You've got to find people and empower them to go create, to go come up with new ideas, to go push their teams to that next level. That is an idea that I have seen firsthand and that we try to put into the business at every chance we get.

Here’s the fastest way to know if you’re making money or just staying busy: know your three numbers. 50% gross profit. 35% overhead. 15% profit. If you can’t say where you stand on each right now, that’s the first problem to fix.
If I could only track five numbers in my HVAC sales department, it would be: revenue per lead, close rate, average install revenue, discount rate, and revenue to budget. Most owners track none of them daily and then wonder why the month got away from them. Measure every day and the numbers stop surprising you.
