I ordered the Super Bowl wings at the heat my brother-in-law brags he can handle. So my sister, Yvette, has been married to Silas for six years, and for six years, Silas has made spicy food his entire personality. He has a hot sauce shelf. He has a shirt that says "Mild is a mindset," and every single time we get wings, he finds a way to bring up that he eats the Widowmaker at Smokestack, which is this local place that makes you sign a little waiver for it. And I'm a lemon pepper girl. Always have been. So Silas is nicknamed for me since basically the wedding has been Little Lemon. He'll say it in front of anyone. Last Thanksgiving, he goes, "Careful Little Lemon, the black pepper's gonna get you, and the whole table laughed, and I just kind of smiled and ate my turkey. This year I hosted the Super Bowl party. My husband and I have the bigger TV, so it made sense. Silas invited a couple guys from work, which fine, I told everyone I'd handle the wings. Silas text me that morning, get me 20 Widowmaker. Don't let them talk you down to the inferno like last time they always try, and then a second text, and get yourself a little lemon pepper, little lemon, with a crying laughing emoji. So I called Smokestack around 2 p.m. to put in the order, 40 lemon pepper, 40 buffalo, and 20 Widowmaker. And the guy on the phone, I think it was the owner, manny he goes 20 Widowmaker, that's a lot. Who's eating those? And I said my brother-in-law Silas, he gets them all time. And there's this pause, like a long one. And then manny goes, Silas, tall guy, goatee, raiders hat, I said yeah, and he goes, okay, you want them how he usually gets them, or you want actual Widowmaker? I didn't really get it, so I said, um, I want what he says he orders. And manny just laughed, like a real laugh, and said, okay, actual Widowmaker it is. When I picked everything up at 5 p.m., manny came out from the back himself, handed me the bags, and then he slid this little roll of stickers across the counter. Red stickers with a skull on them that said Widowmaker. And he goes, he usually asks for a couple of these, figured you'd want them. I didn't know what to say, so I just put them in my coat pocket. Kickoff was at 6.30 p.m., Silas gets the Widowmaker box, opens it up in front of his work guys, does this whole show? Sniffs it, goes, ooh, they went heavy today, takes a big bite, and I watched his face go through like four different stages. He chewed, he stopped chewing, his eyes started watering. He grabbed a vet's beer, not his own, hers, and chugged it. One of his co-workers goes, you good man, and Silas goes, yeah, yeah, it's just they messed up a batch, these are way hotter than normal. Then he went to the bathroom for like 15 minutes. When he came back, he was all red and sweaty, and he looks right at me and goes, did you do something to these? I said do something like what, like add something. These are not the normal Widowmaker, I've had them a hundred times. And you vet, my own sister goes, did you though? Because that's not funny, he could get sick. I said, I ordered exactly what he texted me, 20 Widowmaker. I can show you the text, Silas goes, then they screwed it up, I'm calling them tomorrow. Manny's gonna hear about this, and that's kind of one I'd had enough, because he was saying it in front of everyone like I'd poisoned him. So I said, actually, Manny said to give you something, and I reached into my coat on the hook and pulled out the roll of skull stickers and set it on the coffee table right next to his box. Nobody said anything for a second, then one of his co-workers picks it up and goes, wait, what are these four? And I said, Manny said Silas usually asks for a couple, for the box. You could see it click for like three people at once. The co-worker goes, bro, are you getting medium and sticking these on? Silas goes, that's not, it's not like that, they just run out of the official boxes sometimes. And his other co-worker goes, dude, you made Ignacio eat one at the Christmas party. Ignacio threw up, Silas got up and went to the kitchen, and you vet followed him. And then like 10 minutes later, she came back out and pulled me into the hallway, and said I humiliated him in front of his boss. Apparently one of those guys was his boss, and she said I could have just let it go, that it's just a guy thing, and that I set him up on purpose. Silas left before halftime, on the way out he stopped at the door and goes, you really think that was funny embarrassing me over chicken? And I said no, Silas, but you've called me little lemon at every holiday for six years. I think I've earned one wing.
