Can we discuss the full extent of how badly LinkedIn is fucking over women? Today, I went to the first meeting of the Fix the Feed group, and these are the folks who are responsible for the Change.org petition, as well as lots of the rabble rousing with the LinkedIn top brass. Unfortunately, LinkedIn is not participating in those conversations quite yet, but we have seen companies bend to the will of their customers, and LinkedIn is losing hell of money by discriminating against women. Here's an example of the bias against women that shouldn't come as a surprise, and may not entirely be LinkedIn's fault per se. Employment gaps trigger the algorithmic bias, would employment gaps work against everybody, but the issue is that, of course, women have more employment gaps because of caregiving. Where you live might be working against you. If you live outside of a tech ecosystem, negative points for the algorithm. If you live in an area that's deemed lower socioeconomic status, that works against you. The language that women tend to use works against us. They want to see, like, 100 ducks, and I did this, and I did that. They don't want to hear about relational stuff. They do not want to talk here about gender-related stuff. Think about all the women in small towns who have access to opportunities that they otherwise wouldn't because of the LinkedIn platform. They're essentially being pushed out of, they're drying up, because women don't have the algorithm juice anymore that they used to have to get the visibility in front of the people who they need to be seen by. Here are a couple of things you can do. So here are a couple of things you can do. Sign the change.org petition. You just go to change.org and put LinkedIn in there, and it'll pop up. Share your stories of algorithmic bias, attend to the next meeting of the Fix Your Feed group, and group which you can definitely find details on Cindy Gallup's LinkedIn. Showing up on other platforms, because, you know, All right, I hope this is helpful.
