COPYCAT soft pretzels | 2025 #maze TOP VIDEO 4 of 5 SOFT PRETZELS * 4 cups bread flour (plus extra if needed due to humidity) * 2-1/4 tsp fast rising yeast (you can use active dry, just “bloom” in the water first) * 2 Tbsp light brown sugar * 1-1/2 teaspoons salt * 1/4 cup oil (I use vegetable oil) * 1-1/2 cups warm water (no more than 115°F) * 1/4 cup baking soda * Egg wash (for brushing) * Pretzel salt or coarse sea salt(for sprinkling) * Melted butter (for brushing) Directions: 1. Whisk together 4 cups of bread flour, 2-1/4 tsp yeast, 2 Tbsp brown sugar and 1-1/2 tsp salt in a large bowl 2. add 1/4 cup oil, and 1-1/2 cups warm water 3. Mix together until a shaggy dough forms. You can also knead this in a stand mixer with the dough hook attachment 4. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, adding small amounts of flour if needed (only if it’s sticking everywhere and not manageable) 5. Form into a ball and oil your original bowl then place the dough ball into the bowl, flipping it to coat all sides. Cover with a towel or plastic wrap and let rise until doubled, about 1-2 hrs 6. Once risen, do not punch down. 7. Preheat oven to 450°F 8. Turn out dough onto a CLEAN surface (no flour) and using a knife or pizza cutter, cut small slug shaped portions of dough off the big dough ball 9. Roll into LONG snakes. Way longer than you think. Grab each end and cross them to make an “X”. Cross one more time to make a twist then stick the ends down to form your pretzel (my video is helpful for this part!) 10. In a separate pie plate or similar dish, mix some water and baking soda together to form your “bath” take each pretzel and quickly dip into the baking soda mixture and place onto a parchment lined baking sheet 11. Brush each pretzel with egg wash, then immediately sprinkle with pretzel salt (or coarse sea salt) and bake for 10 minutes until golden For making ahead or freezing: Do not salt extra pretzels. The salt will eventually “melt” in. Bake pretzels with egg wash then later, moisten pretzels and salt before microwaving or toasting. For freezing: follow same instructions but place in freezer bag. When you want one, remove from plastic, rinse under the tap BRIEFLY and salt (the water helps it stick) place on microwave safe plate and heat for 45 seconds. These, these look like pretzel emojis. We're making soft pretzels. Four to four and a half cups of flour. I'm using bread flour. Two and a quarter teaspoons or one packet of yeast. I'm using fast rising yeast today. So I'm just putting it straight into the flour. Two tablespoons light brown sugar and one and a half teaspoons of salt. Make sure that all of those ingredients are spread throughout the flour. I don't want to see anyone commenting being like, I did your recipe and it didn't work. Well, then you probably didn't do my recipe. One fourth of a cup of oil. One and a half cup warm water. We're gonna start stirring this in the bowl. Once it looks something like this, we're gonna turn it out onto our clean surface. Gather it all together and we're gonna start to knead all of that dry flour in. Do not add more liquid. Please for the love of God. Once you're tired of kneading, even though it's not completely smooth yet, we're gonna spray our bowl with oil. And we're gonna put this in there, cover it with plastic wrap and we're gonna let it rise until it doubles in size, which hopefully should only take an hour. Once our dough has proofed, we're gonna turn it out onto our clean surface. I'm not punching it down, by the way, 'cause I want a more fluffy, airy pretzel. Go ahead and preheat your oven to 450 degrees, fair and height. And we're gonna take our pizza cutter and just cut a side off of this. Then roll it out. Gonna set the middle down, then cross these and cross them again and stick the little ends down just like that. Make the pretzels however you want. Doesn't matter. We'll get a shallow dish and pour some water in. Then sprinkle in some baking soda, a quarter of a cup. You need to have a parchment line baking sheet ready for this next part. Just gonna dip both sides onto the tray. Brush all your pretzels with an egg wash. Sprinkle them with some of scenely expensive pretzel sea salt, or just coarse sea salt from the Dollar Tree. They should look something like this into your 450 degree oven for 10 minutes. You guys, I can't, like, I was gonna be like, oh, they, you know, they turned out good. What? Obviously, we have to try it. That tastes like an anti-ans pretzel. Minus like the copious amounts of butter, flavored oil all over the outside. Oh my, okay, I wanna see something real quick. I'm gonna brush it with some melted butter. Now I'm gonna try it. They don't get much better than that. Well, there you go. That's how you make super easy soft pretzels. You're welcome.
