Stop trying to choose a new place to live based on the weather. I can't tell you how many clients come to me and say that they want to move to a new place because of the weather. Don't do that. Also, don't move just because you love the food, don't move because you saw a blogger that said you should move there, don't move just because of the tax laws in a particular place. When you move to a new place, you have to take everything about that country all together in one package. And those things are complicated. They include all of those things, but they also include what is your day-to-day life like? I often talk to my clients about what their dream lives are like, but I also ask them what does their life look like now? Because a lot of people think that just because you move abroad, that all of a sudden your life is so different. It's actually not that different. The way that you spend your day-to-day is often quite the same. So if you think that your life is going to be dramatically different because you've chosen this new location, you might be really surprised to see that it's just very similar to how it was back in the United States. I explain it like this. You want to plan for the life that you're actually going to have, not the life that you imagine in a fake world that you're going to have. You have to plan for your everyday details. How are you going to get to the store? How are you going to have your meals? Are you going to eat out? Or are you going to make all your meals at home? You have to create the lifestyle that matches with your actual reality. And that's not going to come with choosing a place just because of the weather. It's going to come with understanding what your life will look like on a day-to-day basis and choosing a location that matches with that actual vibe of your real life. And not the one that you've imagined for yourself. Moving abroad from the United States is going to be different in the most important way. And that is your safety. Your safety in every sense of the word is going to be heightened. From your physical safety as you step out your front door to your internal safety because as you consume food and water, they're not going to be filled with chemicals. Everywhere you live has trade offs. In the U.S. you sacrifice safety for economic opportunity. For our family, we weren’t willing to live with that risk. Moving across the world gave us a sense of calm and freedom that is worth the loss of income potential. No amount of money could ever make up for the possibility that our kid could be gunned down at school in America. I don’t let parents pretend to be ignorant to the reality of gun violence in schools. You can’t just pretend you don’t realize that’s a possibility everyday you send your kids to school. Either admit you are wiling to take the risk or do something about it. Replying to @justjaimie123 Saying you can’t leave the country because of money is your cover story. There is something deeper happening. You haven’t let your heart accept that leaving is what you really want. When someone wants something badly enough and they let themselves feel that, solutions will come. People make things happen if they want the bad enough. You will have to do things you have never done to go places you have never gone. If money was the only obstacle, you would have figured out how to get it by now. 🆘🇺🇸
