These are my top 3 lessons from starting a new life in a new country. I never thought I would be teaching Americans how to flee their country. When I left the United States it seemed like a covid era decision, not necessarily a forever lifestyle. Five years later and I’ve become a different version of myself that I could have never imagined. My heart aches for all the good people stuck in America who deserve safety, calm, and happiness. This channel is intended to inspire, guide, and aide my brave besties to make the life changing decision to move to a new country. Your life doesn’t need to settle for the mediocrity of America. I left everything behind to start over in a new country. And here are the three things that I learned that I think you should know too. Number one, you are still you, no matter where you are. The problems that you have that exist inside you are not going to go away just because you move to a new country. So if you're somebody with a terrible mindset who's always negative, if you're somebody who's struggling with your health, if you're someone who's having trouble in your relationship moving abroad is not going to fix those things. Those are problems that you need to solve within yourself. Number two, is that you need to immediately stop comparing your new country to the United States. Presumably you grew up in the United States. So you know things just from being conditioned from birth on how that country operates. In the new country, you aren't going to know those things and that will lead to a lot of frustrations. And I found myself often saying that back in America, we would fill in the blank. That has to stop immediately. That will not help you integrate into the new place that you've chosen to be your home. It will only cause stress and anxiety about the new country and it won't serve you in your long-term purposes. And number three is every decision is changeable. Just because you've chosen this country does not mean that you can't choose another one. I have now lived on three different continents in the last five years with my husband and children along for this adventure. I don't know where is going to feel like home, but I'm willing to keep changing and iterating the way that I do things until we find that place that we feel truly at home in. Knowing a new life in a new country is not easy, but it is absolutely worth it. Women are sick and tired of needing to be vigilant all the time. Our cortisol levels are out of control. Our nervous system is shot. Our give a fucks are gone. White American men are making life in the United States a battle ground for women. Walking after dark shouldn’t be considered a risky behavior. Wearing weather appropriate clothing shouldn’t be seen as a provoking element in sexual assaults. Becoming romantically involved with a man shouldn’t end in abuse for 1 in 3 women. There are eight countries where passive income can give women legal residency and safety. Your day job are the golden handcuffs preventing you from living a life of freedom. Corporations know that paying you just enough is the key to keeping you stuck. If they give you too much economic power then of course you would leave. You keep pretending that things will be different after….. some imaginary or impossible thing. Nothing will ever be different if you don’t break the cycle. I hope this helps you understand how to escape your 9 to 5. Your life right now is HARD. Changing it will be hard too. But, after you change it, life will get easier. That’s the key difference. The value of money is very different than the dollar amount. $8 in America will get you a cup of Starbucks coffee whereas it might get you an entire meal including drink and dessert in another country. You imagine rent to be $2,000 but people in other countries might be paying only $200 for a similar size apartment. It’s really hard for Americans to wrap their minds around $30 dental cleanings, $250 full-time domestic help, and $7 cell phone bills. If your world shifted so the salary you get paid could give you luxury, abundance, and calm - then you wouldn’t feel overworked anymore. You only feel overworked because that paycheck isn’t giving you a desirable lifestyle. Even people who get paid “a LOT” can feel overworked because they have created a life that isn’t fun, relaxed or purposeful.
