I try to get parents not to glamorize living abroad with kids. Unless you don’t care about education and you have a bottomless bank account, life will likely be very routine as a family living overseas. You will still need to decide what’s for dinner every night. Weekday mornings will still include sending your kids off to school. Getting your booty to the gym will be just as hard. Life abroad is not a permanent vacation. I want parents to have a realistic understanding of the reality of their choice to live internationally. When your kids look back at your choice to flee a whole country, they will get it. Just as you can look back at your ancestors and see why they left that country to settle in America, your kids will read their history books and understand. Imagine your future generations reading those history books and asking you what possessed you to stay in the United States. What would you tell them? and your kids are going to be brats no matter where you decide to live in this world. If you think that moving abroad is going to solve all your kids' behavioral problems, that is absolutely not the case. We have lived in amazing places and my kids still little snotts, but living abroad with kids does have a huge benefit and that is that you're going to send your kids to school and you are not going to be in fear of a school shooting that day. So far in 2025, the United States has had 8,100 kids in schools on the day of a school shooting. 8,000 kids are now traumatized because they have had a shooting in their school this year alone. That is not something that I was willing to live with. So living abroad, although it is difficult and there are certain behavioral challenges that are unique to living abroad, it is absolutely worth it to me to not have children at risk of a school shooting on any given day. Kids who live abroad learn a unique set of skills that is so heartwarming as a parent. I can't even tell you how proud I am to watch my kids out there doing these things like converting currency because they get their allowance in US dollars or communicating with people in other languages or making friendships with people that we never would have met had we not moved abroad to these international communities. Taking your kids to another country feels like nostalgia in action. It's where kids can be kids. It's exactly what people say they want from America. They want to go back to simpler times and all of that. That's not happening because there's too many guns in another country. It is simpler times and your kids can just be kids and you can breathe a sigh of relief and take that huge weight off of your shoulders because the stress and anxiety of raising children in the United States is off of you. You can relax and that is worth its weight in gold.

In the absence of finding the “perfect” country, Americans are tolerating one of the worst countries. People are always reaching out to tell me they “would” move out of the United States if only some set of impossible criteria were met. Those people want the accolades for being willing to consider making a big exciting change, without actually doing a damn thing. Let me just save you some time. No country is perfect. But, that doesn’t mean there aren’t a lot of safer, healthier, happier, more progressive countries out there that would be wonderful new homes. Stop letting your current circumstances be held to no standard and your potential new home be held to impossible standards. Women are sick and tired of needing to be vigilant all the time. Our cortisol levels are out of control. Our nervous system is shot. Our give a fucks are gone. White American men are making life in the United States a battle ground for women. Walking after dark shouldn’t be considered a risky behavior. Wearing weather appropriate clothing shouldn’t be seen as a provoking element in sexual assaults. Becoming romantically involved with a man shouldn’t end in abuse for 1 in 3 women. Your day job are the golden handcuffs preventing you from living a life of freedom. Corporations know that paying you just enough is the key to keeping you stuck. If they give you too much economic power then of course you would leave. You keep pretending that things will be different after….. some imaginary or impossible thing. Nothing will ever be different if you don’t break the cycle. I hope this helps you understand how to escape your 9 to 5. Your life right now is HARD. Changing it will be hard too. But, after you change it, life will get easier. That’s the key difference.
