You can use that new remote income stream to qualify for visas around the world. Venturing out on your own as a freelancer or business owner is not as hard as you might think. They don't find jobs, they've brought them. Remote income is really what makes the whole moving abroad process possible. People often tell me that their careers are impossible to take remote. And I do get that there are some in-person things that you're doing in the United States to earn money that don't directly translate into being a remote position. But I want to talk about some ways that you can take the skills that you have with your day job in the United States and convert that into remote income in a way that would allow you to move out of the country. For example, let's say that you're a waitress and you're really good at customer service. You've been interacting with the public, you're great at multitasking. One way that you could directly use that experience and turn it into remote income is by becoming a waitress coach. Now, any job that you do, you might as well do the best job at it that you possibly could and earn as much money as you possibly could. And in the United States, being a waitress means earning a lot of tips. You want to make sure that you're maximizing on the number of tips that you're earning. But right now, I'd imagine that a lot of waitresses are not reading books and taking courses on how to be better waitresses. But you could create an online community where you are teaching waitresses to literally be better waitresses and increase their tips and increase their chances of climbing the corporate ladder and getting promotions within the restaurant industry. Whatever experience you have of being a waitress and working in that industry, you can bundle that into e-courses, booklets, worksheet, seminars, any kind of one-on-one coaching. Those are all ways that you can turn that experience into remote income. If you'd prefer to use the skills that you've learned being a waitress but get out of that industry, you could do online community moderation where you're in there making sure that people of the general public that can get kind of cray cray are acting appropriately. You could become a virtual assistant and use your multitasking skills to be able to earn a remote income. Or you could pivot into getting a remote job where you're working online customer service, fielding calls in any number of industries where you have to deal with the direct public. Let's say you're a construction worker and you have lots of experience building residential homes. You could pivot that into a wonderful career being a content creator. Teaching people how to do projects around their house that right now, honestly in this economy, they probably can't afford to hire out for. You could teach them how to do that through all different kinds of platforms. You could have paywalls on your content where more advanced techniques they have to pay you to access but maybe you're monetizing on YouTube and on TikTok and on Instagram and putting out those videos where you're teaching them how to do the things that you know how to do just by trade. You could create your own business where you're doing remote estimating and you could turn those leaves over to local contractors. You could help contractors with their marketing programs and help them get more business by doing cold calling. You could learn some extra skills and learn how to make blueprints and do CAD design and that can be done remotely. What if your career was car salesmen and you're used to doing in-person sales? Well, you could go ahead and pivot that to lead generation for any number of companies. You could become a closer, a professional appointment center. You could be somebody who becomes an affiliate for other people's products and create an online personality where you're out there pitching other people's products in order to close the deal and earn a commission on those products. You could pivot your sales skills into becoming a travel agent which is easily done online. What if you work front desk at a hotel and you think to yourself but I have to be here in order to earn the money? What could I possibly do remotely that has to do with being a front desk worker at a hotel? Well, you could pivot that into anything in the hospitality industry. You could feel customer service calls for hotels. You could turn that hospitality experience into becoming a successful Airbnb host where you help owners manage their properties when they're not living there locally. You could turn that into a tour business where you're helping travelers with their car rental needs instead of their lodging needs. You could start pitching yourself to anybody in the hospitality industry to start running their social media accounts and do all the things for those properties that you wish the people would have listened to you when you were running the front desk about how to market the property better. The fact of the matter is any experience can be turned into remote income with a little creativity and that remote income is what's going to unlock you being able to move abroad. The life you've built in America isn't the life you wanted. It's the life you could scrape together under constraints of: wages that don't cover basics, healthcare tied to employment, housing costs consuming half your income, constant financial stress, survival mode as default state. You didn't choose misery. You chose best option available within impossible constraints. But those constraints are geographic. Change geography, change constraints, change what's possible. The apartment you can barely afford in America becomes the nice place with breathing room abroad. The paycheck that barely covers survival in America becomes the income that allows saving abroad. The constant stress about one emergency destroying you financially becomes manageable situation where emergencies are expensive but not catastrophic. Same income. Same skills. Same person. Different location. Completely different life. You're not stuck because you lack resources. You're stuck because resources you have don't work in location you're in. Move those resources to location where they work better, and you're not stuck anymore. But moving requires: tolerating uncertainty about how things will work out, being uncomfortable while figuring out new systems, releasing familiar patterns even when familiar is miserable, trusting you can build better life from scratch. Most people choose familiar misery over unfamiliar uncertainty. Devil you know feels safer than devil you don't, even when devil you know is grinding you down. This is why people stay in: jobs they hate, relationships that don't work, locations that don't serve them, lives that feel like slow suffocation. Because at least they know how to survive current misery. Unknown is terrifying even when unknown might be better. But what if you're not choosing between misery and uncertainty? What if you're choosing between: familiar misery that will continue indefinitely, or temporary uncertainty that leads to actually building life you want? When you're in survival mode, you're making choices based on: what's cheapest, what's fastest, what gets you through next month, what keeps crisis at bay. Not what you actually want. What you can manage given constraints. Those choices compound into life that doesn't reflect your preferences. Reflects what you could piece together while drowning. But when you move somewhere your income works better, you're not in survival mode anymore. You have breathing room to choose based on: what you actually want, what serves your family, what creates life you're proud of. That's not small difference. That's the difference between life you're enduring and life you're choosing. Living in America isn't default you're stuck with. It's choice you're making every day by not choosing differently.
