Three things you'll only understand if you move abroad to start a new life if you don't know me yet I'm Veronica and five years ago my family for moved out of the United States for good We've lived on three different continents now. I help Americans figure out which pieces around the world will take them So that you can start your new life abroad the first thing you'll realize is that your old life was so controlled by fear Everything from the fear of being judged to the fear for your physical safety I created a life that matched other people's expectations so clearly I had a white picket fence. I set my kids to a prestigious private school I drove an electric vehicle. I had created a life based on the fear of being judged by other people And it wasn't even the life that I wanted but I pretended I wanted it and that was so crazy to me But fear controlled me into creating that life and then the fear for the physical safety I mean we would pivot our behavior because well, you can't go to that mall because there was a mass shooting and you can't go Downtown because there was another mass shooting and you can't go to that restaurant because there was a shooting outside Can't take public transit because there was a shooting on public transit all the things that we did We're just pivots from hiding from public safety concerns because America was so freaking dangerous But you move abroad and then all of a sudden your kids can go do what they need to do But you move abroad and then all of a sudden those concerns are gone and your kids can go out to them all and your kids can take public transit And none of it is scary because those things don't happen outside of United States Second amazing benefit about moving abroad is that your entire identity gets wiped clean You get to become a whole new version of yourself, and that's everything from how you present yourself to other people To how you treat yourself You get to create new routines you get to be kinder to yourself You can be healthier you can make sure that you show up for yourself and your family in a way that you never did in the United States Because you were always grinding and that's a beautiful gift you've given yourself the ability to create a new version of yourself in this new country The third thing you're gonna realize is that peace feels weird at first You're not conditioned in the United States that you can ever just be and be peaceful and calm Because there's always so much chaos and always so many fires to put out You'll just be over in your new country waiting for the other shoe to drop and I've been gone five years now And the other shoe just hasn't dropped. I mean life is still life-ing and things have happened that haven't been great But none of it has been because we moved abroad. It's just been shitty because the shitty things happen in life But if I could tell you anything, it's that when you leave you actually become a calmer version of yourself Because your nervous system settles down. It's a different vibe and it is Unsettling to say the least. After you start a new life abroad, you've become a different person and going home Doesn't really exist anymore because going home doesn't make any sense to that new person You realize how impossible it is to thrive in a life in the United States and that the new version of you is much happier
