It's come to my attention that people still don't actually know the main differences between Instagram and TikTok content and they are so different so I'm going to run through with you right now exactly what works on each platform. Okay so Instagram goes out to 10% of your most engaged audience members so it's usually like family friends, clients, people that you know really well based on how they react determines whether it gets pushed up to the rest of the 90% or to go on to the explore page. So that's typically why you see people's engagement photos or like pregnancy announcements doing really well on socials is because it's recaptured that 10%. Also on Instagram it's a chronological feed so it's based on the time you post whereas with TikTok it's non-chronological that absolutely is not the best time to post despite what anyone is telling you and on TikTok the content goes out to strangers and it goes out to the right strangers based on what hashtags and keywords you use. If you just post a TikTok with no hashtags or keywords it goes out to a stranger. They probably won't interact with it so it won't do very well whereas if you're so specific about who you are and what you post it will align you with the right people and then push you out to more of those people. So sometimes the content you post isn't even bad it's just that you're not getting those basics right. In terms of the content itself Instagram is very much still very short videos like I'm talking four seconds seven seconds like the most it should really be is like 20, 30 seconds even then that's a little bit too long. It's a lot more elevated on Instagram as well so more premium content premium edits very short snappy engaging sound effects visuals and it's also about keywords in the caption on there so like really long captions and hashtags don't work on Instagram. TikTok is more content like this iPhone content you just put your phone up you're sharing your thoughts it's not filtered it's not edited and also longer content as well so like videos over a minute long tend to do a lot better than shorter ones. What doesn't work on TikTok is premium content people see that as an ad and that isn't what brands are not understanding when you post stuff that you post to Instagram people see it as an ad. Face this content doesn't work salesy content doesn't work Instagram premium TikTok more authentic. Give me a follow if you want more simplified social media advice.
