Myth Busting Monday: Your kids will fall behind academically if you move abroad. The US isn't even in the top 5 globally for math, science, reading, or writing. So "behind" compared to what? American parents cling to the myth that US education is world-class. International rankings say otherwise. Meanwhile, countries Americans consider "less developed" are outperforming the US in standardized testing, student well-being, and educational satisfaction. But academic performance is only part of the equation. Mental health outcomes for children internationally are significantly better. Physical health is better. Happiness metrics are higher. Kids abroad aren't doing active shooter drills. They're not medicated for anxiety at epidemic rates. They're not burnt out by age 12. And here's the part American parents don't expect: kids who move abroad often become MORE engaged with learning. Not because international schools are universally superior, but because education systems in many countries prioritize loving learning over performing for tests. And when kids love learning, academic performance follows. Not because they're being pushed, but because they're internally motivated. When kids care about their own education instead of just meeting parent/teacher expectations, academic outcomes improve naturally. Your kids won't fall behind academically by moving abroad. They'll fall behind in stress, anxiety, and fear - which is exactly what you want. Link in bio for guidance on international education options and family relocation. ๐๐บ๐ธ

It's another Mythbusting Monday for your Move Abroad Myths. Every Monday I spend all day talking about common misconceptions about the Move Abroad process. Today we're going to talk about your children's education. Everyone seems to think that educational standards abroad are not up to the rigor of the United States, but the data just doesn't support that. The US has been falling in all of their rankings from the major testing companies when compared to students abroad. So if you think, oh, my kids can only get a good education if we stay in the United States, that's just simply false. We are not ranked top in any of the different categories that you would care about in terms of math and science and communication skills. So the idea that going abroad is going to be a hindrance is actually dead wrong. Their actual well-being is increased as well. So while you might be worried about their metrics and actually getting them to test well, that will be better abroad, but also their emotional well-being, their mental well-being, their ability to adjust into new situations are all improved for students abroad compared to American students. American schools are stressed too thin and they don't have the resources to help each individual student. They focus on memorization and indoctrination of our students instead of caring about them as whole people. When you move abroad, you'll notice there's a much more dynamic mindset when it comes to education and that it extends beyond just being book smart. When we first left the United States, I did it because I saw a YouTube video of an educator in the Dominican Republic saying that he didn't care about teaching our kids to stand in line and sit in a circle because those were easy things to learn. He cared about teaching our kids to love learning. And that was the motto of the school, "Learn to love learning." And they did learn to love learning when we moved to the Dominican Republic. My kids went to the Dominican Republic and became new versions of themselves. Versions of themselves that loved going to school because learning was not about boring things in a book, it was dynamic and it was about them and how they learn best. If you can give that gift to your child, there is no way they will be behind academically and they will be so far ahead academically because they will care about their own education in a way that they wouldn't if you stayed in the United States. I'm Veronica and five years ago, I took my kids out of the United States and we lived on three different continents. My kids have gotten a global education and I wanted to show other parents that they can do the same for their kids. If you're ready to try something new so that your kids get a different version of themselves, the links to work with me are in my bio.

The life you've built in America isn't the life you wanted. It's the life you could scrape together under constraints of: wages that don't cover basics, healthcare tied to employment, housing costs consuming half your income, constant financial stress, survival mode as default state. You didn't choose misery. You chose best option available within impossible constraints. But those constraints are geographic. Change geography, change constraints, change what's possible. The apartment you can barely afford in America becomes the nice place with breathing room abroad. The paycheck that barely covers survival in America becomes the income that allows saving abroad. The constant stress about one emergency destroying you financially becomes manageable situation where emergencies are expensive but not catastrophic. Same income. Same skills. Same person. Different location. Completely different life. You're not stuck because you lack resources. You're stuck because resources you have don't work in location you're in. Move those resources to location where they work better, and you're not stuck anymore. But moving requires: tolerating uncertainty about how things will work out, being uncomfortable while figuring out new systems, releasing familiar patterns even when familiar is miserable, trusting you can build better life from scratch. Most people choose familiar misery over unfamiliar uncertainty. Devil you know feels safer than devil you don't, even when devil you know is grinding you down. This is why people stay in: jobs they hate, relationships that don't work, locations that don't serve them, lives that feel like slow suffocation. Because at least they know how to survive current misery. Unknown is terrifying even when unknown might be better. But what if you're not choosing between misery and uncertainty? What if you're choosing between: familiar misery that will continue indefinitely, or temporary uncertainty that leads to actually building life you want? When you're in survival mode, you're making choices based on: what's cheapest, what's fastest, what gets you through next month, what keeps crisis at bay. Not what you actually want. What you can manage given constraints. Those choices compound into life that doesn't reflect your preferences. Reflects what you could piece together while drowning. But when you move somewhere your income works better, you're not in survival mode anymore. You have breathing room to choose based on: what you actually want, what serves your family, what creates life you're proud of. That's not small difference. That's the difference between life you're enduring and life you're choosing. Living in America isn't default you're stuck with. It's choice you're making every day by not choosing differently. And choosing differently is available to you. Link in bio for people ready to choose. What would you choose if survival wasn't consuming all your energy? ๐๐บ๐ธ
