I'm at the ourselves of skipping my own birthday surprise party after finding out that it wasn't really for me. Stirr time! So I have never really been one for birthdays, but my sister Amy has. She loves a big gesture and believes that birthdays are something to be really celebrated there in achievement. Now two weeks before my birthday, Amy starts acting strange. She kept asking me if I was free on Saturday, but then would be weird when I asked why. So a couple of nights ago, the night before my birthday, actually a close friend of mine, let it slip that there was a party. Anyway, turns out that there was a whole party planned, or family there, some co-workers friends, and then my ex for a little context hair. Me and my ex-boyfriend Steve broke up two months ago. Ended horrifically, it was very manipulative, there was a lot of cheating involved, and I've heard it pretty clear to everybody that I want absolutely zero contact with this man. However, on many, many occasions, Amy was like, "Listen, I understand, but he's a great guy, you know, you just need to let it pass." She said that he has been a part of our lives for years, and will always be part of the family. So obviously the first thing I did in this situation was give Amy a call. She didn't deny anything. She admitted that finally she could talk to me about it all, and that the reason for the party was not for my birthday. It was to see if she could get my ex and I in the same room so we could sort things out. Read the room dear god Amy, read it. She literally finished the conversation with thank me later. As you can imagine, I went absolutely mad at her. I said, "You literally can't ambush me with my horrific ex and my own birthday party." After I'd specifically mentioned that I didn't want a birthday, after I'd specifically mentioned on many occasions that I did not want a birthday party. She called me dramatic and told me to stop being so bloody and grateful. I said, "Just cancel the whole thing, Amy, I'm not going." She said, "No, no people are traveling from all over the place." Yesterday was my birthday. My phone was off the entire day, and my best friend and I just ended up going for lunch together. When I finally got home and turned my phone back on, it was crazy. I had so many angry texts from Amy. I had people saying that I was ungrateful and they were disappointed I wasn't there. People even said that I had embarrassed Amy. So was I wrong for not going on? Was I ungrateful for my sister planning a party?
