Here's a power move to stop being angry. Ooh, you're not going to like this one. You're going to resist it, but it's going to give you truth. And truth is going to give you power. Most people think that anger gives them power. It doesn't. It gives you tunnel vision. When you get angry, your brain literally shuts down options. Your amygdala fires, your threat system locks in, and your prefrontal cortex, the part of your brain that solves problems, it goes offline. So now you're not thinking, you're targeting. Your world shrinks to one thing. What's wrong? Who's wrong? And what needs to be handled? And in that state, you lose access to creativity, strategy, and actual solutions. Because you don't see possibilities. You see enemies. That's why angry people blow up possibilities in relationships and momentum. And it's not because anger is bad. It's because it narrows your field so hard you can't see the move that actually wins. So real power is this. Feel the anger, but don't let it collapse your vision. Because the second you widen your field again, options come back. And that's where your leverage is. Here's how you get it back. Step one, break the target lock. Right now your brain is glued to one thing. So force it to see more. Look around and silently name five neutral objects in your environment. Not problems, not meanings, objects. Because your brain can't stay in threat mode while it's mapping space. You're pulling it out of attack mode and into orientation mode. And that puts your prefrontal cortex back online. Step two, generate three alternate realities. Because your angry brain thinks there's only one explanation. So force three new ones. What's another reason this could be happening? What's the most generous interpretation you could offer here? What would this look like if it actually worked out for me? This further re-engages your prefrontal cortex and you're literally reopening possibility. Step three, change your speed. Anger wants immediate movement. So do the opposite, slow your next action down by 50%. Speak slower, type slower, and wait before you send. That shift alone moves you out of reflex and back into choice. That's it, you don't fight anger. You widen the field. And once the field opens, you stop reacting and you start playing the situation. And that looks a lot like power.
