Not to be a bitch, right? But when you start creating content, nobody cares about you yet, so you need to give them a reason to care. There are three ways to do this, and you kind of have to pick a lien. Because if you try and do all of these three things at once, you're going to confuse your audience. But if you do none of them, you're going to stay invisible. The first option you can choose is Reliability, and this is where people follow you because you represent who or where they are in life. They see themselves reflected in you. This works if you're in the middle of a journey rather than on the other side of it. So maybe if you're documenting, becoming a mum for the first time, maybe you are building a house, building a business, getting out of debt. There needs to be some kind of narrative to your account. You're not teaching anybody anything with your content, you're purely documenting, and the value isn't in giving people tips, it's making them feel sane and validated. If somebody watches your content and thinks, oh my god, that is so may, that's how you win by Reliability. The second option you have is through Asperation. Your one step ahead of your audience, you're where they want to be. You basically already solved a problem that they're maybe already stuck in. Maybe you have fixed your skin after years of suffering with acne. Maybe you have figured out your personal style and can help other people do the same. You're not documenting anymore, but you're translating your experience into shortcuts for the person watching. And they follow you because you basically have the answers that they're still looking for. And the third option you have is to be the insider. You have knowledge that people don't otherwise have access to. This works really well if you're an expert or a specialist in your field. But I've seen people in lots of industries do this really well. Comedian Matt Richardson, I don't know if any of you follow him, he's really good at this. He gives his audience an insight into the comedy and entertainment industry through his content. This works because humans are nosy and exclusive information like this really spreads. And basically people are following you because you know things that they don't. So basically if I landed on your account right now, why should I care? Are you like me? Are you ahead of me or are you letting me in on something? Pick one and then go all in on that!
