How to create more main character energy in your content

Answer me this, right? If your account was to disappear tomorrow, God forbid, would people miss the content? Or would they miss you? Ah, yeah, really think about that. Because if the answer is the former, then uh-oh, your account needs more me and character energy. But I have worked with thousands of content creators and let me tell you, me and character energy is built by two things, narrative and attachment. And the good news is you can start implementing these things into your content like today. The first thing is narrative. You need to give people a reason to care about the future of what you post. And normally this is done through sharing some kind of unfolding story or a journey or a transformation or some kind of goal. Maybe you're renovating your kitchen. Maybe you're going through a breakup. Maybe you're documenting recovery from something. Maybe you adopted an evil pet, Jerbal. It's the uncertainty and the what happens next that gets people invested. But the more human and the more relatable the story is, the more people will care because they're able to project themselves into it. You think about all the things that are going on in your life at the moment, big and small and think about how you can weave those into your content. Then the next thing is attachment. And this is what gets people to care about you beyond just the information and the content that you share. And attachment is built by things like opinions, your sense of humor, vulnerability, insecurity, imperfection and consistency in your content. You basically want to make your audience feel like they know you so well that they can predict your future behavior. I know exactly how she would react to that. I know exactly what she would say about this. And you can do this by using your stories, really intentionally, your Instagram and TikTok stories, where you give people a peek behind the curtain. What a lot of people do is see their stories as like add-on content. And really it should be a whole additional strategy to strengthen your relationship with your existing audience. And also just in general, be more organic with the content that you're sharing on your feed. So if something has pissed you off, pick up your phone, record your unfiltered thoughts, unposted. If you were on a walk and had a really weird thought about something that happened 10 years ago and you're wondering if other people remember it too, record that as a piece of content. These are not always the kinds of videos that are going to blow up your account, but they strengthen that relationship with your existing audience, which will help you grow in the long run in a way that is meaningful.
