Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Robin Williams said in 2009, five years before ending his own life, and I don't think that makes him a hypocrite, I think it makes him someone who understood it a little too well. Because people love that quote, they throw it around like it's simple, like it's something you can just remember, and suddenly want to stay. But nothing about that feeling is simple. Because the feeling isn't so temporary when it's been buried inside of you for years, when it wakes up with you, when it follows you into rooms, when it sits next to you in conversations, and no one else can see it. Robin Williams is proof that it doesn't matter how loud you laugh or how many people you make feel better, or how full your life looks from the outside. You can still be losing a war no one even knows your fighting. Most of us wait for our friends to break down or ask for help or show some obvious sign that they're not okay. But some people don't say it like that. Some people say it by being the funniest one in the room, the one who checks on everyone else, the one who never wants to be a burden. Sometimes the people who seem the most alive are sometimes just the best at hiding it. So check on them anyway. Not just the ones who look like they're falling apart, or the ones who ask for help, check on the ones who never do. Because sometimes the difference between someone staying and someone leaving is whether or not they feel seen for even just a second.
