Am I wrong for the in upset that my future mother-in-law announced my engagement before we did? So my fiancé and I recently got engaged and we started sharing the news of close family. After we told his mum, she asked us, specifically not to post anything on social media, until we'd personally told everyone in the family. We agreed, although we weren't actually planning on making a social media announcement anyway. A few days later we told my parents about the engagement. So my mum mentioned she'd already heard the news from my future mother-in-law, because she texted them to let them know. I was disappointed because it felt like that moment had been taken away from us. However, I did assume she just got excited and just made a mistake, so we brought it up calmly. Instead of apologising, she immediately blamed my fiancé, saying it was his fault for not communicating properly. She then told him she didn't want to hear about it again because she'd had a bad day at work. What bothered me most was that it wasn't that she told somebody. It was that she was the one telling us not to share the news, then shared it herself and refused to ignore as she did anything wrong. And we weren't doing it for overreacting, or if it's reasonable to expect an apology when someone announces you're engaged in before you get a chance to. Am I wrong?
